Emsworth revamp

This garden had an existing large patio with a row of pear trees cutting through the middle of the lawn, effectively blocking off the rest of the garden.

The client brief was to create interest in the garden and open it out so that the whole garden was usable. The large patio was useful for family entertaining but didn’t take into account the path of the sun so by evening time there was nowhere to sit to enjoy the last of the sun's rays.

A low level wall was designed around the patio so that it felt a more enclosed, intimate space. Plants within the wall cavity made it visually more exciting and broke up the flat space between the lawn and patio. The pear trees which were old and nearing the end of their productive years were removed.

An arch and pergola were added to direct the eye towards interesting features and in the future will look stunning with climbing plants adorning them.

Finally a new patio at the rear of the garden meant a place to enjoy in the evening with a gin and tonic in hand.
